What is the cost per session?
Our Counselors provide services for $75 – 250 per session. Newer Staff Counselors have availability at the lower end of the fee scale, while our Senior Counselors charge $250 per session..
How do I pay?
Once you have spoken with a counselor and set up a first appointment, your counselor will send you a packet of client paperwork which will include the necessary instructions to put a credit card on file. Having a credit card on file is required, even if you typically pay for services with cash or check. If you want to pay for a session in cash or check, the session will have to be in person.
Can I use a HSA card?
As long as your HSA card can be run like a traditional credit card, you can use it to pay for your appointments.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes we do accept most insurances. All clients pay directly to the agency their copay. The agency does file insurance claims, Some insurance companies will reimburse some percentage of the money you spend on therapy; however, we cannot guarantee that your insurance company will cover all costs for South Texas Counseling Agency services. YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY PORTION OF YOUR CLAIM NOT PAID BY YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY. If you would like to consider this option, please call your insurance company to ask them how it works and any requirements they have for services to be eligible for payment. You will need to let your counselor know of any requirements before you begin services.
What kinds of clients do you see?
We provide Individual, Couple, Family, and Group Services to adults 18 or older. We primarily serve people in the RGV area but can provide teletherapy services to any adult living in the state of Texas. We do not contract for service with anyone currently involved in a legal dispute, or who has been mandated to therapy.
Do you provide therapy for minors/children/teens?
Yes, we accept children/minors and teens for therapy as long as they are not involved in a custody dispute. All children starting services will need to bring a copy of custody agreements allowing parent to make decisions on behalf of the child’s mental health (if applicable). Otherwise, parents that are already divorced will need to both sign informed consent forms if the custodial agreement is not provided. NO CUSTODY DISPUTES ALLOWED. We prefer to steer clear of litigation.
Can I request therapy for someone other than myself?
No, the person who will be the client needs to fill out the request form themselves, and they will be the point of contact for setting up the sessions. You may aid someone in filling out the form, but ultimately the client will need to be the one to submit the form and discuss services with the counselor.

As the session proceeds, your counselor will ask you questions to gain a better understanding of your work life, romantic life, identity, social history, medical history, etc. This assessment may last as long as the first three sessions depending on how much information there is to gather.

Sometimes, the counselor you’re paired with isn’t the best fit for you. That is okay! You can express to your counselor that you would like to work with another counselor, and they will resubmit your request with additional information so that your next match is likely to be what you’re looking for. You do not have to worry about hurting the feelings of your counselor by telling them it’s not a good fit – in fact, we want you to communicate that to us.
